CHARACTER
Character Name: Anthony “Tony” Stark, aka Iron Man
Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe: Tony Stark, The Avengers
Timeline: Following The Avengers
Crimes: Murder, attempted murder, accomplice to mass murder, numerous counts destruction of property, violation of no-fly zone, trespassing, smuggling, possession of illegal equipment and firearms, computer crimes to include hacking secure databases, grand larceny, defiance of subpoenas, contempt, womanizing.
Personality: In many ways, Tony Stark is larger than life. He’s cultivated that image for himself, somewhat by virtue of being the only son of prodigy Howard Stark and heir to his immensely successful weapons development company, somewhat by being wildly rich and known to the point of infamy in the public eye, and somewhat for his ostentatious personality. Never shy or modest, Tony thrives on the attention he gets and knows just how to play a crowd. He plays his part so well that much of the public would never assume there’s more to him than meets the camera lens.
One thing about his image is entirely what it seems: Tony thinks quite a lot of himself. Label it narcissism and he’d call that accurate, but the point is he has every confidence in his abilities. And his abilities are vast enough to support that lofty opinion of himself. Since he was a child Tony walked in his brilliant father’s footsteps, building engines and machines and soaring far ahead of his peers in terms of ingenuity and brainpower. Still a relatively young man, Tony has dozens of inventions to his name, many of which are considered the pinnacle of technology. Among these inventions are the platforms for several artificial intelligences including J.A.R.V.I.S., his personal assistant, and the famous Iron Man suit, the latter being the achievement for which he is best known.
Quite simply, Tony Stark is a genius. And he knows it, and he’s not afraid to let you know it.
There are several sides to Tony’s cleverness. The first is obvious: his ingenuity when it comes to inventions and technology and his unparalleled genius related to all things science and mathematics. The second side you’ll see in his quick tongue, which tends to lash out at any and all times with a sharp retort or a glib witticism, even in situations in which it could seem remarkably inappropriate. A third is seen in the way Tony makes his naysayers and competitors look bad, often as publicly as possible -- Tony Stark isn’t above pettiness or revenge, when he feels attacked, or just because someone’s being bothersome. And still a fourth you’ll see in the way his charm and charisma keeps his bed warm and his life interesting -- or, more accurately, kept his bed warm. He’s a one woman man, these days, but still the consummate flirt.
There is a more serious side to Tony, as well. He may not act like it, but in a lot of ways he is capable of being the hero the Iron Man suit makes him seem. After his time in captivity with terrorists, Tony recognized that the weapons his company created were harming people by ending up in the wrong hands, and he personally took it upon himself to change that. Even before this revelation, Tony believed strongly in what he did as a weapons developer, insisting that the technology was used for other, more benevolent purposes and that having excellent defense was a key to protecting the country. His experience in the caves of the Middle East changed Tony’s methods, but not his ideology.
When others are in danger, Tony doesn’t hesitate to step up and set things right. His motives aren’t always so pure, but when push comes to shove Tony believes in doing the right thing and keeping people safe. He stepped up and joined up with the Avengers even though he disagreed vehemently with what S.H.I.E.L.D. was doing by using the Tessaract to develop weapons, because he was needed to protect people. He also was willing to sacrifice himself in order to keep a nuclear strike from annihilating Manhattan, and he was also willing to slowly watch himself die of Paladium poisoning because he understood how important Iron Man was to preventing wars. (Of course, the fame and attention didn’t hurt, either.)
For all that, however, Tony has an Achilles’ Heel or two. His first and deepest insecurity has to do with his late father. Tony’s father is revered to the point that Tony often feels as though he’s in the shadow of a god, expected to live up to an impossible standard. His relationship with his father as a boy only enhanced this fear; Howard Stark was far from an affectionate man, and Tony struggles with the lack of overt approval and love he received from his dad. He states that his father’s happiest day was when he sent Tony off to boarding school, and despite others’ insistence that this is false, Tony continues to feel the shadow of his father looming over him.
Tony also struggles when he feels out of control. Used to having all the answers at his fingertips, Tony is most unhappy when he doesn’t know all the variables to a given problem. He will use any means necessary to obtain the information he needs: hacking into S.H.I.E.L.D.’s secure system, questioning a dangerous man who’s hell bent on killing him, defying whatever obstacles are in his path. (He was never much for rules or conventions, anyway.) His trouble coping with a lack of control is also seen when he thought he would die from the Paladium core that was helping to power the miniature Arc Reactor in his chest which kept him alive. When he thought he was dying, he gave away his company and his suit design to Pepper and Rhodey, the two people closest to him, and went on a bit of a bender. However, once he recognized there was a way to overtime the Paladium poisoning, he went as far as creating a new element from his father’s previous research in order to survive.
As the above example shows, Tony is single-minded when it comes to achieving a goal. He spends countless hours in his workshop tinkering -- the more something doesn’t seem to be going as he desires, the harder he works to make it happen. He single-handedly (with the help of J.A.R.V.I.S. and his other mechanical helpers) built several versions of the Iron Man suit, all its weaponry and devices, the miniature Arc Reactors that power it and keep the shrapnel imbedding in his chest from reaching his heart. He has also demonstrated the ability to create these things in, at best, a crude laboratory, out of scraps of old weaponry, as he did with the first prototype of the Iron Man suit in order to escape captivity from terrorists. If necessity is the mother of invention, Tony Stark could easily be called its father because the two of them combined can create almost anything imaginable.
A risk taker to his core, some have called Tony self-destructive. And it’s true that he tends to impulsively press forward on things before he’s worked out all the kinks, such as his disastrous attempts to achieve a stable flight when he was creating the Iron Man suit. He tends to jump into things head first and relies on his quick thinking and ingenuity to pull him through -- which it does, time and again. When something needs to happen, Tony makes it happen with determination and a heaping helping of guts.
Although charming and witty toward strangers and very extroverted, it takes time to earn Tony’s respect. He may have fans but he doesn’t have many trusted confidants, Pepper Pots and Col. James Rhodes being among the very few he trusts with his life. He also took an instant liking to Dr. Bruce Banner, their brilliant minds forming a quick bond that was cemented when they discussed their mutual conditions and Tony encouraged Bruce to learn control over the Hulk. However, Tony struggled with the other Avengers members, particularly Nick Fury who he knew was hiding things from him, as well as Captain Steve Rogers/Captain America, who he saw not only as a useless relic of the past but also someone who had earned the praise of Tony’s father for what Tony saw as no good reason. However, Tony did eventually learn to trust Steve enough to defer to his leadership during the Avengers’ battle with the Chitauri. And despite his (warranted) lack of trust in Fury, Tony believed him when a nuclear strike was aimed at Manhattan and Fury asked Tony to step in.
Tony would doubtless minimize both scenarios, diverting attention with mocking banter. But he did join that team for the greater good, and the right reasons.
Abilities: Tony is a technological and engineering genius. He has shown himself capable of applying his ingenuity and brilliance to create new technology even with very limited means (such as using scraps in a cave, while in captivity). He also has the programming skills to produce Artificial Intelligence. Given proper materials and time he could likely build or invent almost anything.
Tony is capable of using the miniature arc reactor in his chest in order to power the Iron Man suit and other devices which give him countless additional capabilities depending on the device, including flight, firepower, invulnerability to projectiles, the ability to survive underwater or at high elevations.
Suitability: Tony’s primary motivation at Marina Nova would be trying to figure out the weaknesses in the Wardens’ systems in order to bypass them and find a method of escape. Tony hates problems he can’t solve and so he would likely spend quite a bit of time on this. Simultaneously he would be constructing several projects for his use while in the dome, including an Iron Man suit if he could find materials, recreating J.A.R.V.I.S. if possible, and various other pieces of tech that he would find useful in daily life. I could also see him using these devices in order to aid others who might be in trouble, if it proved necessary. In between his work, Tony would likely monitor the network closely, having set up nets so he could review data in large chunks. Information is power, and he would want to gather all he could.
Action post sample: Please note that I am not a science genius like Tony, so the factual information herein may in fact be total BS.
Tony's flopped at his desk, drinking a thick, hideously green concoction. His screens were full of windows, each showing different pieces of a complicated schematic, formulas being calculated.
He reached to one screen and plucked the transparent image of a complex turbine off the screen, twirling a virtual image of it in midair. He flicked at a few of the outer components, separating them from the device, then balled up the virtual images and tossed them over a shoulder. Behind him, a carnival-like clang of victory sounded and a second virtual image announced that his score was currently 24,126.
“We can squeeze more wattage out by artificially inflating the flow rate. Let's throw some bells and whistles on there.” Tony sipped at his shake, giving the turbine-image another 360 degree lookover.
“Design rendered,” a disembodied voice answered, the proper British accent making J.A.R.V.I.S. sound slightly bored. “The new turbines should be optimal at a depth of up to three miles.”
Tony frowned. “What’s the latest measurement for Challenger Deep?” Almost seven miles, if he recalled correctly. Which of course he did.
A slight pause. “Sir, a dive to that depth would require substantially thicker paneling and an entirely reinforced framework.. My calculations indicate --”
“Adamantium should do the job.”
“Yes, but the availability of such large quantities --”
“Do it, J.A.R.V.I.S.” Tony sat back in his desk chair, spinning it halfway around. “Text me when it’s done. I’ll be in my trailer.” He knew better than to keep Pepper waiting. She probably had everything set up on the balcony -- cheeseburgers for him, something French and sauce-covered for her.
“But Sir, if I may caution --”
“Mute.” Tony slid out of his chair and scooted out of the workshop. “Don’t wait up.”

So. [A handsome man in a precise goatee appears on the video, perfectly calm, munching on some kind of crunchy snack as he speaks.] This sucks.
[He digs in his bag for more of whatever he’s eating -- salted cashews, as it turns out -- his bag crumpling loudly in the mic.] Oh, did anyone else notice the lack of 7-11 around here? If we’re going to be locked up for eternity I’m definitely going to need a Slurpee. Not that the prison bowling alley isn’t a nice touch. I wonder if they have Disco Night.

History: Anthony "Tony" Edward Stark was born to Howard and Maria Stark in 1970 in New York. The child of prominent war hero and weapons genius Howard, there were high expectations for Tony from the beginning. At a very young age, he demonstrated rare prowess in technology and mathematics, building his first engine at age 9. Aside from public appearances, Tony spent much of his young life at a prominent upstate boarding school.
After graduating from MIT at age 17, Tony continued his education and developed a reputation in his own right. Hi parents died in a car crash when he was 21, and later that year he inherited Stark Industries. Aided by Obediah Stane, his father's longtime partner, his best friend and military liaison for Stark Industries Capt. James Rhodes, and his assistant Pepper Potts, Tony took the world by storm, creating new weapons systems for the military and using that technology to create "smarter" devices for the public.
While presenting new weapons technology to troops in Afghanistan, Tony was taken hostage by terrorists who wanted Tony to build them a missile system. During the assault he was injured by an explosive and took several fragments of shrapnel to the chest. In order to save his life, a fellow captive, Dr. Yinsen, attached an electromagnet powered by a car battery to Tony's chest to prevent the shrapnel from reaching his heart. Instead of making a missile for the terrorists, Tony made a miniature arc reactor for his chest to keep himself alive, and then created the first prototype for the Iron Man suit. The suit, combined with the heroic sacrifice of Dr. Yinsen, allowed Tony to escape the terrorists and be rescued.
Tony returned home forever changed. He had seen the results of irresponsible use of weapons and immediately announced that Stark Industries would be shutting down its weapons division. While Stane insisted he would deal with the blowback, Tony developed the Iron Man suit Mark II, a sleeker design that allowed for flight, powered by the new version of his arc reactor chest piece.
Once the Mark II was completed, Tony used it to travel to the Middle East and take revenge on the terrorists that held him captive, as well as destroy the Stark Industries weapons they had and save some civilians that were in danger. Tony then orders Pepper, who is reluctant to enable Tony's increasingly dangerous activities, to track down all Stark Industries' weapons so Tony can destroy them. During the course of her work, Pepper discovers that Obediah Stane had hired the terrorist group the Ten Rings to kill Tony. Stane then attacks Tony and steals his arc reactor, which he uses to power an Iron Man-like suit he had Stark Industries developers build him.
Tony is able to defeat Stane and, at the press conference following, announces to the world that he is Iron Man. Agent Coulson from S.H.I.E.L.D. is present and is interested in interviewing Tony. Tony then meets Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who tells Tony that he is not the only superhero in the world and introduces Tony to The Avengers Initiative, which Tony doesn't show interest in.
Six months later, Tony revives Stark Expo, an expose of technology and innovation begun many years ago by Howard Stark. Tony's Iron Man has helped keep the world at a tentative peace, however the United States government is wary of leaving such a dangerous piece of equipment in the hands of a civilian and summons Tony before a Congressional committee, led by Senator Stern.
Tony refuses to turn over his technology and embarrasses the committee and rival engineer Justin Hammer by showing them that the attempts of other countries and industries (including Hammer Industries) to recreate his technology are woefully behind. Tony smugly leaves the session, stating that he has "successfully privatized world peace."
However, unbeknownst to all including Pepper and Rhodey, the palladium that powers Tony's arc reactor chest piece is slowly poisoning him. Tony continues to seek an alternate power source, but begins to unravel mentally as the pressure builds. He signs control of Stark Industries over to Pepper, expecting not to live much longer.
At the Monaco Grand Prix, where Tony has spontaneously decided to drive the Stark Industries car, Tony meets Ivan Vanko. Ivan is the son of Anton Vanko, who collaborated with Tony's father on the first arc reactor, but received no credit for the achievement and died a pauper in Russia. Ivan has created a whip-like weapon using his own arc reactor. Tony defeats Ivan using the Iron Man suit and Ivan is imprisoned.
Justin Hammer seeks out Ivan and intends to use Ivan's technology to create an army of high-powered droids in order to show superiority over Stark Industries. Meanwhile, Tony goes on a drunken bender in the Iron Man suit at his birthday party, fueled by his belief that he doesn't have long to live. Rhodey is forced to intervene, using another of Tony's suits to stop the rampage. Following the fight, Rhodey decides to take the technology to the military rather than leave it in Tony's hands.
The following day, Tony again is sought by Director Fury. Fury reveals that the assistant Tony hired to replace Pepper, Natalie Rushman, is in fact S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Natasha Romanoff. Fury tells Tony that his father was one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s founding members and provides Tony some of Howard's materials so he can attempt to cure his palladium poisoning. After a disastrous meeting with Pepper, Tony discovers a pattern hidden in his father's old Stark Expo diorama that shows the structure of a new element. Tony synthesizes the new element and creates a new chest piece for himself, free of palladium.
Meanwhile, Ivan reveals himself to Tony and Tony dons his Iron Man suit and heads to the Expo, where Ivan has taken control of the droids he built Hammer as well as the Iron Man suit worn by Rhodey. Tony defeats the droids and Ivan with Rhodey's help. At a debrief following the incident, Fury informs Tony that he is not recommended for the Avengers Initiative, and Tony agrees to be a consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D.
Tony begins construction on Stark Tower, the prototype of a building run entirely on clean energy. The New York tower is just completing construction when S.H.I.E.L.D. suffers a great loss: Loki, of Asgard, breaks into S.H.I.E.L.D. and steals the Tesseract, an artifact that is a source of of extreme power and energy.
Agent Coulson contacts Tony to participate in the Avengers Initiative regardless of the previous issues. Tony is given research on the Tesseract and his fellow Avengers members, including Steve Rogers, or Captain America, the man who Tony's father revered and spent years searching for in the Arctic ice.
Tony arrives in the Iron Man suit to subdue Loki just as Captain America is battling him. Tony and Steve instantly have an adversarial relationship. Tony also fights Thor when he arrives to take Loki back. However, since Loki has given the Tesseract to others and doesn't know its location, Loki is taken prisoner on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Helicarrier. There, Tony meets Dr. Bruce Banner, also known as the fugitive Hulk, a fellow scientist with whom he shares a bond: the burden of their powers and the effects on them. He encourages Bruce to learn to control the Hulk.
Not trusting Fury, Tony hacks the Helicarrier's system and discovers that S.H.I.E.L.D. is using the Tesseract's technology to make weapons. Tony and the other Avengers are angry over this, but their own personal disagreements make it impossible for them to act as a team on the matter. Meanwhile, the brainwashed Agent Barton, whom Loki took from S.H.I.E.L.D., attacks the Helicarrier. Tony and Steve work together to keep the Helicarrier afloat while the battle rages, resulting in Loki escaping, Hulk and Thor being thrown off, and the death of Agent Coulson.
Tony takes Coulson's death especially hard. While Steve is trying to discuss the situation, he and Tony collaborate to figure out that Loki's plan to release an army from another world, the Chitauri, will be centered around Stark Tower in New York. Tony and the others head to New York and after a hard-fought battle, manage to hold back the Chitauri.
The World Security Council, however, has ordered Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. to launch a nuclear strike on Manhattan in order to stop the Chitauri from spreading out. Fury refuses, but the Council launches regardless. Fury warns Tony of the oncoming missile, which Tony intercepts and manages to guide into the dimensional rift, destroying the Chitauri mother ship. Tony's arc reactor loses power just as the missile hits the ship, but Tony is pulled back through the rift and to Earth, where he falls and is caught by the Hulk. Initially Tony appears to be dead, but is revived when Hulk roars at him.
The Avengers send Loki back to Asgard with Thor, and then go their separate ways. Tony and Pepper begin planning the reconstruction of Stark Tower, which was destroyed in the battle with the Chitauri.

So. [A handsome man in a precise goatee appears on the video, perfectly calm.] This sucks.
[He knocks on the wall of the room where he's found himself, the sound echoing loudly in the mic.] Not that I mind the streamlined look, but it's not exactly welcoming. Someone should address this egregious issue with management. And while we're at it, some decent snacks are definitely in order. How can I possibly be expected to break out of here in a fit of miraculous ingenuity when I can't even get a bag of Gummy Bears?
[He starts knocking more on the walls, here and there. A pleased smile forms when the sound is slightly different on one of them, and then he promptly starts banging on it in an attempt to wedge it open.] If you're going to be so inconsiderate to not provide terminals for me to hack your system, we'll just do this the hard way.
This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function? Tony is a problem-solver, which will lead him to try anything and everything to combat the situations he's facing. This will likely include several maneuvers that risk either his life or the station as a whole. Upon those failures it is likely he will have some difficulty for a time, not being one who takes failure well in the slightest. However, Tony is resilient and determined and will regroup eventually, seeking out others to collaborate with and trying new approaches to help their situation.
